Over £45,000 worth of brand new play equipment was destroyed in minutes as arsonists set light to matting in Hardie Park in March 2009.
As this article from the Thurrock Gazette mentions, this is not the first time that this park has suffered at the hands of vandals. in 2006, the skate ramps were also torched. Although the protagonists are a tiny minority, they have influenced the community views of the park with many feeling negative towards this valuable asset.
It is our responsibility to lead the community to value its park and fight for its survival and improvement.
